High-quality display graphics designed for exhibition shell schemes
Exhibition shell schemes are constructed at exhibitions and events throughout the UK and the rest of the world. They are the most commonly used method of dividing hall space into separate exhibition booths. If you have booked an exhibition shell scheme at an event and want to promote your company information and branding on the walls of the stand in a professional manner then our printed exhibition shell scheme graphic panels are the perfect, economical solution.
How Are Exhibition Shell Schemes Constructed
The overwhelming majority of shell schemes used within exhibition venues tend to be constructed with a simple metal framework. Vertical metal pillars are separated with horizontal cross beams positioned at the bottom and top of the stand to create a booth of almost any given size.
Most shell scheme stands tend to be built in 1M wide increments but it is not uncommon for some stands to feature half-width panels too.
The Component Parts Of A Shell Scheme
Here we see the basic structure of a typical metal-framed exhibition shell scheme. In this example, the stand measures 3M x 3M in size and has 3 walls, being open only on the front side.
Most shell scheme stands feature a facia board as shown. These are horizontal, landscape orientation panels that are usually located at the top of the open sides of the shell scheme. The facia panel is normally pre-printed by the exhibition contractor to provide information about the stand number and the name of the company that is exhibiting.
Printed Shell Scheme Panels - Material Options
We offer printed shell scheme panels on a choice of five different materials. All of the materials we offer are printed in photo quality using a digital printing process to provide a professional appearance when applied to the walls of your shell scheme. Please scroll below to learn detailed information about each of the material options that are available.
BLOCKOUT PVC PRINTED SHELL SCHEME PANELS
Blockout PVC is a banner material that has a relatively smooth, matt finish. It can be rolled up to a relatively small diameter (around 100mm) so it is very easy to transport. This is our most popular and affordable material for use as printed shell scheme panels.
Key Points
Economical
Can be rolled for convenient transport
Panels weigh approximately 1.3KG
Waterproof & UV Stable
Strong & difficult to tear
Photo-quality UV printing process
Opaque (no show through)
ROLLABLE POLYESTER PRINTED SHELL SCHEME PANELS
This material is our highest quality type of rollable material. It is much stiffer and springier when compared to PVC which is softer and more pliable. The additional stiffness of this material allows it to sit very flat with little undulation or cockling. The surface of the material has a textured, matt scratch-resistant finish so it is easy to clean and highly durable.
Being textile-based, this material is the lightest of all the options available for printed shell scheme graphics with a typical shell scheme panel weighing around 0.5KG. The material is printed with a dye sublimation process which means that the ink is dyed into the fabric. This allows the material to be folded without causing damage to the print. The print is sewn with a hem to the edge to prevent fraying and finished with loop velcro to the rear perimeter as standard.

Panels can be folded or rolled for transport
Panels weigh approximately 0.5KG

UV Stable
Can be machine-washed at 30 degrees

FOAMEX PRINTED SHELL SCHEME PANELS
Foamex is a 5mm thick semi-rigid plastic sheet material that is made from PVC. It is a popular board material for exhibition display panels. Being 5mm thick, it sits perfectly flat against the wall of a shell scheme. The drawback is that Foamex sheets cannot be delivered overnight via a conventional courier because they are too bulky and fragile. They are also difficult to store if you want to retain the panels after your event. For a delivery cost on Foamex boards, please contact us with your address and we can calculate the cost based on the travel time and distance.
Key Points
5mm thick semi-rigid board material
Sits completely flat against a shell scheme wall
Panels are fragile and have to be transported flat
Panels weigh approximately 7KG
Waterproof
UV Stable
ENGINEERED CARD PRINTED SHELL SCHEME PANELS
At 14mm thick, this material is rigid and sits completely flat when attached to the wall of an exhibition shell scheme. The material is made from sustainable sources and can be recycled in the paper/card stream. The drawback is that large cardboard sheets cannot be delivered overnight via a conventional courier because they are too bulky and fragile. They are also difficult to store if you want to retain the panels after your event. For a delivery cost on this product, please contact us with your address and we can calculate the cost based on the travel time and distance.

The vast majority of metal shell schemes require a printed graphic of around 950mm wide x 2340mm tall to neatly cover the infill panel. This is the standard measurement for a panel to fit an 'Octanorm' shell scheme and it is the standard size that we produce our printed shell scheme panels at unless otherwise instructed.
Although 950mm x 2340mm is a common size for a typical shell scheme graphic, you must verify the correct dimensions for the infill panels for your particular shell scheme to ensure that your graphics are produced at the correct size for a neat fit.
On the next tab is a typical shell scheme specification sheet showing the dimensions of the 'Octanorm' shell scheme. It is common that on booking a shell scheme stand, technical information such as this will be provided to you as part of an 'exhibitors manual'. It is also sometimes the case that the information is available by logging into an exhibitor's portal on the event's website.
If you are not provided with technical information then you should contact the event organiser and request it. You can forward this information to us at [email protected] whereby a member of our team will happily review it and confirm the correct dimensions required for the printed panels for your stand.
If you are ordering panels at a size other than 950mm x 2340mm, please email us after you have placed your order with your order ID number and the correct size for the panels and we can add a note to your order. It's also good practice to name your files according to the size (in mm) that they are to be printed. For example, 'panel 1 - 950mm x 2340mm.pdf'.
Technical Information For The Octanorm Shell Scheme
This extract from the shell scheme for an Octanorm shell scheme shows how the stand is constructed and provides technical information relating to the correct panel size required for the printed shell scheme panels. You should check with your particular event organiser to obtain information such as this that will provide the correct panel dimensions..
How To Hang Printed Shell Scheme Panels
We recommend using Velcro to hang your printed panels and suggest using loop velcro on the rear of the panel and hook velcro on the wall of the stand. This is because loop velcro is softer so the printed panels are nicer to handle.
If you have a shell scheme that with fabric-covered walls, you will need only hook velcro for the rear of the panels.
Velcro is not supplied with our panels except printed fabric panels that have loop velcro pre-sewn on the back.
We sell adhesive velcro in 25M reels. You will need approximately 6.5M of velcro to cover the rear perimeter of a shell scheme panel or you can get away with using two strips of velcro at the top of the panel and one strip of velcro at the bottom in which case you will need approximately 3M of velcro for each panel.
See our accessories link if you would like to buy velcro along with your printed shell scheme panels.
Designing Artwork For Printed Shell Scheme Panels
To get the best-printed results for your shell scheme panels, it is important to set up the artwork to the correct specifications. Please refer to the 'downloads' tab on this product page for detailed artwork set-up information. We have also published an artwork set-up template for a typical 950mm x 2340mm printed shell scheme panel although you should verify that this size is correct for your particular shell scheme before embarking on setting up your artwork.
